Why Meditate?

It’s a well known scientific fact that meditation has a myriad of health benefits. Meditation reduces stress and inflammation, which are precursors to chronic disease and life threatening illness.

One of the main reasons we meditate is to create present moment awareness within ourselves, one that invokes inner peace, clarity of mind, and expansion of consciousness. When we meditate, we move beyond the mind’s stress, into a state of restful awareness.

Afterwards, the peace we experienced during meditation ripples into our day. Over time, with a daily meditation practice, instead of reacting out of anger, fear, doubt or worry, we start to respond to people and situations with healthier, more creative responses.

Over time, the moments of peace, love, bliss, and clarity that we experience in meditation weave into the fabric of our life, and we experience healing, self-love and a return to wholeness.

Our self love creates a ripple effect out to the people we interact with in our lives, and out into the world, similar to the ripple affect a pebble has being dropped into still water. Just as the pebble subtly affects the entire body of water, so too do we affect all of humanity by rippling our peace and compassion to those around us.

What Is Meditation and Why Does It Matter To Me?

Practiced for thousands of years, meditation is a tool that awakens the body’s inner intelligence, helping bring the mind to a quieter state of being and expanded states of consciousness.

The moments of bliss and peace that you experience during meditation start to multiply as they become an integral part of your every day life. You start to become more aware of the miracle of life itself, as you become steeped in compassion and loving kindness, not only for others, but for yourself and all other life that exists.

You may notice a shift occur in your life that effects every aspect of your being. Experiencing higher states of consciousness leads to greater understanding of life, heightened intuition, bliss, creativity, forgiveness, peace, happiness, and lightness of being. Yes, lightness of being. Meditation helps you to “lighten up.”

Meditation is an antidote to stress. We use a primitive part of our brain, the amygdala, when our needs are not being met, which engages the fight/flight response. In ancient times, this response was useful if we were being chased by a saber toothed tiger, and needed to outrun our predators to ensure survival. In today’s world, we become stressed when we worry about bills to pay, when we’re late to an appointment, when we’re overwhelmed by our workload, or have relationship issues. These are not life threatening situations, yet we react in a very destructive way.

The consequences of our reaction to stress causes acute and chronic illnesses, which in many cases can become life threatening.

Meditation brings us into a state of “restful awareness,” which has the exact opposite effect of the fight/flight response.

Why Do I Need A Meditation Mentor?

Proper training, guidance, and support from a highly qualified teacher can ensure a successful and fulfilling lifelong meditation practice. Even though it’s a fairly simple process, many people give up meditating for many reasons, such as expectations of certain experiences, confusion about if they’re doing it right or wrong, they have thoughts, they think they can’t sit in silence, or they don’t have the proper structure of support found in a highly qualified and certified meditation teacher.
